Recognizing the importance of the voice of customers (VOCs) in improving basic education services and responding to the needs of its personnel, the Schools Division of Quezon conducted its third management committee meeting in the form of “huntahan” via Zoom, March 25-26, 2021.
The “huntahan” also served as a means of the Top Management and functional divisions/sections/units to disseminate much-needed information and updates on policies in the Department of Education (DepEd) and programs in the Division among the participants which included school heads and Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs).
OIC-SDS Elias A. Alicaya Jr., EdD discussed about the status of the third quarter Self-Learning Modules (SLMs), the updated school calendar (third quarter: March 22 to May 16; and fourth quarter: May 17 to July 10). He announced that the early registration should be implemented on March 26 to April 30, 2021. He reiterated that school heads should attend to the needs of teachers and should make ways to address them by virtue of Republic Act No. 9155, which empowers them to strategize and do which is best for the betterment of their respective schools.
Alicaya further highlighted that teachers who undergo further education or teach in higher education institutions (HEIs) should secure a permit to study or teach. He said that after five years in service, a school head who will be transferring to another station should have a formal turnover of all the necessary files, finances, passwords, and other pertinent documents to ensure smooth transition of leadership and governance.
OIC-ASDS Gregorio A. Co Jr. presented graphically the inventory and list of Kindergarten to Grade 3 modules which were reproduced and distributed to districts and schools, as well as the Learners Packet for Grades 4 to 6 which can be used as reference and instructional material. Co also mentioned about the common mistakes in the crafting of the schools’ Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and Work and Financial Plan (WFP).
OIC-ASDS Herbert D. Perez emphasized the objectives of Project PUSH for the benefit of aspiring principals. He added that the Division gives its full effort to help all Teachers-in-Charge (TICs) and Officers-in-Charge (OICs) who have been serving the schools for a long time already to pass the National Qualifying Examination for School Heads (NQESH). Trainings are being provided and qualified applicants are welcome in open ranking activities. OIC-ASDS Gregorio T. Mueco, on the other hand, discussed about the importance of principals’ promotion, as well as the essential preparations to gain Principal IV positions for each district.
Administrative Officer V Maria Dolores Atienza informed the participants of the early submission of requirements for hardship pay of eligible personnel, and other monetary matters like the now-turned P6,000.00 from the then P3,500.00 chalk allowance.
CID Chief Lorena S. Walangsumbat, EdD focused on the discussion of the Project CID-LIGHTS and the 2N-AIP. She explained that these projects should be supervised and monitored regularly to avoid failure and mitigate risks of dropping out of learners. On the other hand, SGOD Chief Elizabeth M. De Villa prided the Project DUYOG in the implementation of varied governance and operation programs and activities, especially in the time of pandemic.
Planning Officer III Marbin Jeramil D. Fragata updated the participants on the LIS/BEIS and answered some queries on the matter. Information Technology Officer Wilbert B. Porteza reminded them on effective ways to secure the DepEd email and maximize the DepEd Commons for instructional purposes. Finally, the School Health Section updated everyone of the recent COVID-19 active cases in the Division, and underscored the strict compliance of schools, districts, and offices on the safety protocols to prevent spread of the virus.
For SDO Quezon, constant communication with personnel remains to be a useful strategy to hear the VOCs and address immediately the pressing needs of its employees, learners and other stakeholders.
