After two weeks since the actual writing bout, the wait was over as the 2024 Division Schools Press Conference awarding and closing ceremonies commenced on Saturday, February 3 at Talipan National High School.
It was the first time since the awarding and closing ceremonies returned to face-to-face modality after holding it online for the last two seasons.
“Excitement was there. The crowd roared as the announcement of winners started,” Randall Dimaculangan, Division Association of School Paper Advisers’ president recalled.
Dr. Luningning Mendoza, principal IV of TNHS welcomed the horde of around 400 spectators in a much-awaited event in conclusion to the DSPC 2024.
Dr. Lorena Walangsumbat, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division graced the event urging campus journalists and school paper advisers to never cease doing great things and continue striving for excellent writing tradition in DepEd Quezon.
“The training should not stop after the competition, it must continue all year long to hone our learners’ critical thinking skills and creative impulses to analyze issues and events that matter to them,” Dr. Walangsumbat stated.
Two weeks earlier, January 13-14, the actual writing competition was held at Unisan Integrated High School, Unisan Central Elementary School, and Quezon National High School.
Meanwhile, Gumaca West Central Elementary School emerged as this year’s over-all champion with 70 points; Atimonan Central Elementary School came in the second place with 54 points, while Sampaloc Elementary School was the third place over-all after amassing 49 points.
Completing the top 10 best performing schools for elementary level included Mauban South ES (4TH place with 39 points), Candelaria ES Main(5th place with 35 points), Guinayangan Central ES (6th place with 35 points), Pagbilao Central ES (7th with 33 points), Bukal Sur ES and Infanta Central ES tied at 8th place with 28 points, Mangilag Sur ES was 9th with 25 points, and Candelaria ES 1&2 completed the top 10 with a haul of 24 points.
In the secondary level, Quezon National High School led the pack with 147 points followed by Quezon Science High School in the second place with 99 points, and Talipan National High School for the third place over-all with 79 points.
Other best performing schools were Gumaca NHS (4TH with 63 points), Recto Memorial NHS (5TH with 59 points), Dr. Maria Pastrana NHS (6th with 31 points), Tagkawayan NHS (7th with 27 points), SLSU Laboratory HS (8th with 25 points), Lutucan Integrated HS (9th with 19 points), and Lopez NCHS (10TH with 18 points).
