In light of the current pressing learning gaps and financial challenges of teachers, the Schools Division of Quezon endeavored to address these matters by gathering the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Fourth Congressional District, including Candelaria West district, in the 2023 Quezon Educators’ Research Convention (QERC) held at Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City, November 11.
Centered on the theme “Pursuit of Education Transformation along the Path of Recovery,” Rommel C. Bautista, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent, with the support of the provincial government of Quezon, spearheaded the educational occasion aiming to enrich teachers’ capabilities in aiding learning difficulties caused by numerous adversities in the previous years.
At the initial juncture of the event, Hon. Angelina “Helen” DL Tan, Governor of Quezon Province, expressed her desire to alleviate the learning gaps by maximizing educational efforts, especially for those children who are left behind and at risk of failing.
Commencing the research presentations, Victorino P. Pinawin, Senior High School teacher at Gumaca National High School, shared his research titled “Phenomenological Study of Cloud-Based Accounting Skills in Senior High School Curriculum.”
From the findings of his study, Pinawin highlighted that integrating cloud-based accounting software skills promotes communication, information literacy, industry collaboration, digital literacy, and practical career readiness in the 21st-century workforce.
Thereafter, Norman E. Dañez, Senior High School teacher at Calauag National High School (CNHS), detailed the methodology and results of their study titled “Improving Integrated Science Process Skills via Project-Based Learning in Physical Science.” Co-authored by John William D. Villarosa, Special Science Teacher of CNHS, the study revealed that short exposure to project-based learning resulted in minute improvement in all facets of students’ integrated science process skills, thus recommending teachers and future researchers to conduct further investigation on the effect of this intervention.
Lastly, the participants gained the opportunity to learn from the research titled “Blending Competencies: Enhancing the Academic Performance of the Students-at-Risk of Failing through Project-Based Learning Intervention (ProBaLIn) in Lopez West District” authored by a group of teachers from Cogorin Ibaba National High School, spearheaded by Raymar C. Francia.
Since the study focused on blending Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) and contextualized project-based learning tasks, Francia emphasized that the use of ProBaLIn is an efficient and less stressful intervention resulting in improved academic performance of students at risk of failing.
Meanwhile, the Convention also aimed to heighten teachers’ knowledge of financial management through an interactive talk from Chinkee Tan, Motivational Speaker and Financial Consultant. The popular financial guru shared multiple topics such as gaining income, financial stability, financial responsibility, budgeting, and debt.
“Upang yumaman, kailangan mong maghanap ng problema, maghanap ng solusyon, maghanap ng produkto o serbisyo, at gawin itong negosyo sa pamamagitan ng sipag, tiyaga, karunungan, at diskarte,” Tan stated.
At the closing ceremony, Herbert D. Perez, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, expressed his gratitude to participants for fostering unwavering dedication in achieving quality education and overcoming various personal and professional challenges.
“Pasasalamat sa dedikasyon upang maipaabot ang kalidad na edukasyon sa ating mga mag-aaral para sa isang matatag na bansa,” Perez concluded.
