DepEd-Quezon School Governance and Operation Division (SGOD), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) section in collaboration with Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YESO) launched its 2022 DRRM Summer Youth Camp for REINA and POGI Cluster at Polillo Central Elementary School (PCES) Polillo, Quezon, June 27-29.
Arvin A. Repaso and Leah A. Perez, PDO II, members of the Technical Working Group, DRRM Coordinators and about 150 student-participants attended the activity that highlighted Climate Change Adaptation and Management (CCAM) Module, and other sub-topics such as Fire Safety, Bandaging, Basic Life Support, Emergency Rescue & Transfer, Gabay at Mapa, and Basic Survival Technique.
The activity emphasized the importance of mangroves reforestation. Together with the Bantay Kalikasan of Polillo, the participants were tasked to engage in massive mangrove planting with 1,166 propagules courtesy of MENRO Patnanungan and Polillo. Also, coastal clean-up initiatives were done at Corregidor So, Pulo, Brgy. Libjo and Tambangin Brgy. Sibulan Polillo, Quezon.
CCAM speakers Joy Glariosos, Ramiline Resplandor, and John Von Jovi Orozco from REINA Federation reiterated the irreversible effect of Climate Change. The speakers emphasized that it is everyone's responsibility to help the nature heal and find solutions to the crisis we experience.
“The effect of climate change is irreversible, we cannot go back to the old earth, but we can rebuild it by working together– planting, recycling, avoiding activities that will contribute to the destruction of ozone layer”, Resplandor stated.
In a related event, I-SAFETY was awakened stressing the importance of volunteerism through emergency response activities.
The Bureau of Fire Protection—Polillo, FO2 Glen Resplandor, FO2 Lisiel Avellaneda, FO3 Andrei Soltura, and FO2 Journey Romero shared lectures cum hands on activities on fire safety capacitating the participants on the basic fire prevention technique and proper use of fire extinguisher, and what to do in case of fire.
Edgardo Regencia delivered lecture on bandaging and demonstrated its different techniques and their importance in time of emergency.
Relatively, Mrs. Vicky P. Alva facilitated the activity on Basic Life Support (BLS) discussing the steps in conducting CPR and on how to assess the patients or victims. The participants executed the ABCD (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) steps.
Another speaker, Renato Vera, led the discussion and hands on activity on Emergency Rescue and Transfer exhibiting the proper way of assessing and transferring patients into a safe place. This allowed the trainees to experience a simulation scenario giving them the chance to apply what they learned
Meanwhile, speakers from REINA, Ma. Christine Coronacion, Niel Astrera, and Daven Astejada rendered talks respectively on Gabay at Mapa and Basic Survival sub-module reiterating the i-safety tips on how and what to prepare before disaster. The lectures gave the participants insights on the importance of having an e-balde for the family and the safety procedures such as family plan in times of disaster. The module required the participants to come up with an output on Gabay at Mapa and Basic Survival plan.
